John Wilkes Booth and his fellow conspirators planned to...

John Wilkes Booth and his fellow conspirators planned to kidnap Abraham Lincoln on March 20, 1865, but on that day the president did not arrive at the location they thought he would. Once Booth figured out that Lincoln was going to Ford’s Theater he and his conspirators planned to assassinate Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Johnson, and William H. Seward (â€Å"Abraham†/history.com). Abraham Lincoln was the first president to be assassinated. As the president could not escape the southern sympathizers the nation was lead through its darkest hour when our 16th president Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. At 10:15 Booth slipped into the box and fired his .44 caliber single-shot derringer into the back of Lincolns head (â€Å"Abraham†/history.com). Booth†¦show more content†¦He grew up in Springfield, Illinois. Tens of thousands of people stood by the train tracks to pay their respect the the fallen president (â€Å"Abraham†/history.com). Lincoln and his son , Willie, who died in the White House of typhoid fever in 1862, were interred on May 4, 1865, at Oak Ridge Cemetery (â€Å"Abraham†/history.com). Booth fled south to Maryland (â€Å"Abraham†/history.com). Union soldiers were on Booths trail immediately (â€Å"Abraham†/history.com). David Herold was one of Booths conspirators and went south with him. Booth stopped at Samuel Mudds house to get his leg treated by this doctor (â€Å"Abraham†/history.com). The doctor was sent to prison for life since he treated Booths leg. Before booth and Herold could get across the river, unions soldiers caught them (â€Å"Abraham†/history.com). The soldiers set the barn on fire that Booth was in hoping he would come out. Instead the soldiers shot him after Herold came out and surrendered (â€Å"Abraham†/history.com). Hours after Booth was shot he looked at his hands and said â€Å"Useless, useless† and died (â€Å"Abraham†/history.com). Booth con spirators were hung for their crimes (â€Å"Abraham†/history.com).
